| PHILOSOPHY |
 |
The early years of a childs
learning experiences are crucial to his/her
educational development.
At the E.I.S.P., we aim to provide a
positive, caring and stimulating yet
structured environment in which children
can feel secure and confident from the
very first day. The children at E.I.S.P.
are encouraged to develop skills ,
acquire concepts , knowledge, confidence,
autonomy and independence in a relaxing,
flexible and caring environment.
For young children for whom so much
knowledge is new and exciting and so many
physical skills still have to be
acquired, the need for exploration ,
experimentation and play is vital,
because this draws and elaborates on
first hand experience and is
intellectually demanding. Opportunities
for interaction with a variety of
materials in a range of physical and
social contexts provide the perfect
vehicle for learning as this naturally
motivates young children.
At E.I.S.P. we firmly believe that the E.Y.D.
staff together with parents support
have a key role to play in supporting and
directing the children in the development
of knowledge, skills and the acquisition
of new concepts, ensuring and maximizing
the learning potential of each individual
child.
| AIMS |
 |
We aim to:
- Identify the Early Years as an
enjoyable experience for all
children.
- Introduce the children to English
as soon as possible, recognising
its existence and validity in the
classroom and to start them on
the process of internalising
English. We aim to stimulate in
the children an interest in
English through stories, rhymes
and songs so that they want to
learn.
- Provide a secure, friendly and
stimulating environment, which
lends itself to maximum learning
potential so that each child can
develop (physically,
intellectually and emotionally),
to her/his full potential by
playing, exploring and
investigating.
- Instill in each child a feeling
of self worth and confidence in
his/her own abilities to learn in
a relaxed environment where they
are not afraid to make mistakes.
- Provide opportunities for each
child to attain skills and gain
knowledge.
- Enable each child to be socially
adaptable and accept the
limitations and responsibilities
of co-operating with others, with
a sense of mutual respect for the
other children and adults in the
early years.
- Work with parents, enhancing the
role of parenting, helping them
to understand the importance of
the early years and its influence
on later learning.
- Help the child to become a better
learner for her/himself,
developing confidence and
independence. To persevere and
tolerate frustration, to learn
self-motivation and communication
with those around her/him.
- Work closely with the rest of the
early years department to give
the child a smooth transition
into the reception year and an
introduction to a wider community.
| CURRICULUM |
 |
The education taught in the E.Y.D. is
based on the British model (early
learning goals/ six areas of learning).
The medium for learning is English.
The Curriculum mirrors the current
developments in the U.K. and is based on
solid child development principles. At
the E.I.S.P. we believe that each child
develops and reaches the desired learning
goals at his/her own rate , therefore
much attention is paid to each child as
an individual and children are encouraged
to maximize their potential , whether
intellectual, artistic or physical
through an extensive variety of
structured cognitive, perceptual and
sensory exercises.
The E.Y.D. Curriculum fosters social as
well as intellectual competencies (skills
essential for school success) by
expecting high standards and using
methods appropriate to achieve this.
E.I.S.P. is highly conscious of the
importance which affective and social
development have at this stage and the
necessity which young children have to
receive the security and affection they
need to progress in all areas.
The development at this affective level
is one of our primordial objectives. In
the E.Y.D. we try to provide the correct
atmosphere for the development of the
necessary, social and moral values for
our pupils to become useful, positive and
constructive members of our society.
| AREAS OF
LEARNING |
 |
The six ar eas of learning are
outlined below:
- Personal, social and emotional
development
This area focuses on children
learning how to work, play, co-operate
with others and function in a
group beyond the family.
- Communication language and
literacy
This area covers important
aspects of language development
and provides the foundation for
literacy. Your child will be
helped to acquire competence in
English as soon as possible. We
will focus in particular on
speaking and listening and in pre-reading
and pre-writing activities.
- Mathematical development

through practical activities,
songs and on using and
understanding simple mathematical
language.
- Physical development
Our programme will focus on your

control, mobility, corporal/spacial
awareness, team work, and
manipulative skills in indoor and
outdoor environment. The
programme includes establishing
positive attitudes towards a
healthy and active way of life.

express ideas and feelings in
creative ways through music, art
and dance.
- Knowledge and understanding of
the world
We will help your child to
acquire a basic knowledge and
understanding of his/her
environment, other people and
features of the natural and man-made
world .
| SPECIAL
EDUCATIONAL NEEDS |
 |
Some children may require additional
support in specific areas of development.
This support is provided by the S.E.N.
coordinator , other class teachers and/or
support assistance under the guidance of
the class teacher.
| DISCIPLINE
POLICY |
 |
The school is committed to academic
excellence and sets high standards of
behaviour and social conduct fostering
the development of responsibility and
mutual respect. The children from the
earliest years are well disciplined and
are encouraged to show respect, use good
manners and acceptable social behaviour
to all members of the school community.
The aim of the school is to provide
students with a solid all-round education
whilst fostering tolerance and
understanding between young people of
diverse nationalities.
| STRUCTURES
AND FACILITIES |
 |
Present facilities include six
classrooms and two large purpose-built
playrooms which are currently used for a
variety of free play, gym and audio-visual
activities. The children in this
department also have access to two large
well equipped outdoor play areas, one of
these being a sheltered weather protected
zone, as well as a library and a lunch
area.
| STAFF |
 |
Each class has its own teacher ( and
support assistant) who is responsible for
the social, emotional and academic
development of the children in her care.
Teachers are carefully selected (mainly
from the U.K.) and are fully qualified
and experienced . Small class sizes in
spacious child-friendly rooms and a
carefully planned curriculum provide
students with the support needed for
effective learning.
| ETHOS |
 |
The cosmopolitan nature of the school
population and its international outlook,
together with a permanent link with
Italian national, regional and local
culture help to form citizens who have an
international world view without losing
contact with their day-to-day environment.
The pleasant school campus, combined with
the high quality of teaching , ensure
that the pupils work and develop in a
warm, happy atmosphere. Each pupil is
treated as an individual who is
encouraged to achieve his/her full
potential in a caring and supportive
environment.
