COLLABORATING FOR THE FUTURE

We aim to work closely in partnership with parents to ensure that the children are encouraged to work hard and progress well. We believe this is fundamental to the development, achievement and happiness of the children in the school. New parents are encouraged to arrange a visit to the school before applying for a place and meetings can be arranged with class teachers or Heads of Departments to discuss individual class programmes for each year group. The variety of the programme of studies and activities makes the International School a unique and special school.

Parents are fully informed of the programmes for the year at an early class meeting, attended by the class teacher, Director and Head of Department. Great importance is placed upon regular contact with parents to ensure that those at school and at home both work in joint partnership to get the very best from our children.

We also encourage parents who are available and willing to help in school in any way, as we believe this is of great benefit to our students. This usually involves working with small groups of children doing various activities in classrooms, under the supervision of the class teacher.

INVESTING IN LEARNING

Each class in the Elementary School is equipped with a modern computer and an assortment of software. These are linked to the Internet and used for a range of curriculum areas as well as in separate I.T. lessons in our computer lab, aimed at teaching the necessary skills. Secondary School students have access to another computer-lab and use the computers within several curriculum areas.

The Elementary and Secondary School set regular homework for the children to consolidate the concepts studied in school time. This begins with a small amount of Maths, reading, and spelling in the younger classes and builds up in stages each year, so that the Secondary School children receive some homework for the majority of curriculum subjects.

The extra curricular sports, drama and music activities are not the only social and pastoral care given to our students. Regular social studies and personal/moral discussion times allow children to voice positive events they have experienced in school, as well as giving opportunity for discussion of concerns they may have. Children are all encouraged to work together as a team when appropriate and to take responsibility for their own actions.

BEHAVIOUR POLICY

Children should be able to come to school and learn in an orderly, safe, productive and happy environment. There should be good relationships between the children and adults working in the school. Our behaviour towards each other should always show mutual respect and sensitivity to the needs of others. All our school rules are based on consideration for other people and care of the environment and property. Children are expected to exhibit self control and common sense which will lead to self discipline.

The school makes clear codes of conduct, rewards and sanctions aimed at encouraging good behaviour and these should all lead to increasing self discipline in our children. Our approach to discipline is characterised by clarity and consistency. It is important that a child understands the reason why his or her behaviour is at fault.

The school recognizes the importance of our partnership with parents and works with them in matters of behaviour and discipline. All school rules are aimed at ensuring an orderly, safe, productive and happy environment. We ask parents to agree to these rules and to support our efforts in school to keep them.
